The Don Valley Stadium was a sports stadium in Sheffield, England. Originally built as an athletics stadium for the 1991 World Student Games it has since found a variety of uses. It was the home ground of Rotherham United F.C. from 2008 until they moved to the New York Stadium at the start of the 2012–13 season. It is also one of the stadiums used for home games by rugby league side Sheffield Eagles. It is the former home of the Parramore Sports football team. It was designed by Sheffield City Council’s Design & Building Services and built by RM Douglas Construction. The complex opened in 1990, ready for the 1991 World Student Games.
The stadium has been closed and is due to be demolished.
Following on from the Parkhill trip earlier in the evening, we had decided to go take a look at this. The stadium had already been closed for a few weeks and we wanted to look at the possibility of getting to the top of the floodlights. They turned out to be locked up tight so we made do with the stadium itself.
