Monckton Coke Works

Monckton closed in December 2014 with a loss of 120 jobs. The site is in the process of being decomissioned at the present time. At the time of its closure Monckton was the only independent coking plant in the country.

After hearing about the closure, and the upcoming Christmas holidays, a few of us discussed making the trip out to see the site. After an aborted day time trip, where we fled due to security cameras I was determined to see the inside of this place. To our dismay a few other groups had been round for a look a few days before we actually made the trip in. I was happy with the decision to go after dark in the end. The whole site was lit up fairly well.
